Bigger slices mean more important or more time. It doubles as a first fractions and percentages lesson because the slices must add up to a whole.

Most teachers use it from grade 2 through middle school. Younger students can keep the six preset categories and just change the sizes and colors. Older students can rename categories, use real weekly-hour data, and discuss why the percentages must total 100.
