Google Docs requires a detour through Sheets to make a chart. Our free tool lets you skip the extra steps entirely.
Google Docs does not have a built-in chart creator. You need to open Google Sheets, enter your data in two columns (labels and values), select the data, and insert a pie chart via Insert > Chart. Customize the chart in Sheets before moving to the next step.
Navigate to the Google Docs file where you want the pie chart to appear. Place your cursor at the insertion point where the chart should be added.
In Google Docs, go to Insert > Chart > From Sheets. Select the Google Sheets file containing your chart, choose the specific chart, and click Import. You can choose to link it to the source spreadsheet or insert it as a static image.
Click on the inserted chart to resize it or change text wrapping. If you linked the chart, you can update it later by clicking the Update button when the source data changes in Sheets.
The Sheets-to-Docs workflow takes multiple steps. A faster approach is to create your pie chart with our free online generator, download it as PNG, and insert it into Google Docs via Insert > Image > Upload from computer. No Sheets detour required.
Practice what you learned with our interactive pie chart editor below. The chart is pre-filled with sample data to get you started.
